Robin looked for manys years for a dark mahogany red cocker spaniel like the one she had seen when she was a child. After many years of looking. Robin found a gentleman that had been working on the reds and had been breeding them for many, many years. With much persuasion, Robin convinced this gentleman to let her have Ruby. The reason why you don't see deep dark reds like you did in the past is because in the 70's and early 80's breeders started to breed for the silver and the and the silver buffs, and the deep reds where almost extincted. Very few breeders kept this color growing and alive. Many of the deep dark reds do not have the coats like the ones you see on the buffs so these dogs were discarded. If you go back in time and look at such breeders like Ruth Benholf and Ruth Crakey, they use to show the deep dark reds and because of them this color flourished. We are very excited at Roustabout to be doing a breeding in the near future with Ruby as it is our hopes to put one of these dark reds back in the show ring. All puppies from Ruby's litter Will be sold with spay and neuter contracts and there AKC papers will be marked limited as we do not want the puppies to fall into the wrong hands.
